Professor Sarah Young
Sarah is the Dean of Science at the University of Auckland. She has expertise in developing and leading people, strategy and policy and has undertaken a variety of board and leadership roles.
About
Professor Sarah Young is the Dean of Science at the University of Auckland, and she is currently the Board Chair of the Institute of Environmental Science and Research, ESR, one of New Zealand’s Crown Research Institutes. Recent prior leadership roles include being Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Canterbury, Head of the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney and the Head of the Pathology Department and Deputy Dean of the Dunedin School of Medicine at the University of Otago. Outside of her work roles, she has also served on a range of committees and boards in local communities. Sarah’s own research is focussed on immune modulation and developing immune therapies to treat diseases such as cancer. She has undertaken her research in New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom, as well as the USA, and has been recognised with awards such as the Sir Charles Hercus fellowship, through the Health Research New Zealand, and a Fulbright senior scholar award.
