Plasmid-mediated AmpC β-lactamase gene PCR

Antibiotic Reference Laboratory

Demonstration of the presence of plasmid-mediated AmpC β-lactamase genes by multiplex PCR.

The test is appropriate for cefoxitin-resistant E. coli, Klebsiella spp and Salmonella spp. Prior to performing the PCR, ESR will screen the isolate for AmpC β-lactamase using a boronic acid double-disc synergy test.
