Demonstration of the presence of a KPC carbapenemase gene by PCR.
KPC carbapenemases are most commonly identified in Klebsiella pneumoniae, but have also been identified in other Enterobacterales. The KPC β-lactamase confers resistance to all β-lactams, including cephalosporins, monobactams and carbapenems. Several types of KPC carbapenemase have been described.
This test is appropriate for isolates that screen positive for carbapenemase in the CLSI modified carbapenem inactivation method.
