Demonstration of the presence of IMP, VIM or NDM metallo-β-lactamase genes by PCR. The test is appropriate for ceftazidime-resistant Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter with carbapenem resistance or reduced susceptibility.
Prior to performing the PCR, ESR will screen the isolate for metallo-β-lactamase using the CLSI modified carbapenem inactivation method, and EDTA and MPA/TE inhibitor-based double-disc synergy tests.
