Rheumatic fever recurrences in New Zealand

Abstract

The risk of recurrence of ARF in New Zealand is low for children. In contrast, recurrences of ARF in New Zealand occur predominantly after age 15, and disproportionately in the Auckland DHBs. Current medical systems and registers may not be meeting the needs of adolescents and adults requiring secondary prophylaxis.
