The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 626 non-human Salmonella isolates in 2023 compared with 785 in 2022.

There was a decrease in the number of:

  • S. Agona (30 in 2022 vs. 14 in 2023);
  • S. Enteritidis (101 in 2022 vs. 29 in 2023);
  • S. Give (102 in 2022 vs. 57 in 2023);
  • S. Mbandaka (19 in 2022 vs. 9 in 2023);
  • S. Senftenberg (19 in 2022 vs. 5 in 2023);
  • S. Typhimurium (254 in 2022 vs. 190 in 2023)

There was an increase in the number of:

  • S. Bovismorbificans (100 in 2022 vs. 114 in 2023)
  • S. Brandenburg (23 in 2022 vs. 39 in 2023);
  • S. Hindmarsh (17 in 2022 vs. 62 in 2023)
January

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 42 non-human Salmonella isolates in January 2023 compared with 36 in January 2022.There was an increase in the number of S. Bovismorbificans (1 in 2022 versus 6 in 2023) and S. Hindmarsh (1 in 2022 versus 7 in 2023)

February

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 63 non-human Salmonella isolates in February 2023 compared with 55 in February 2022.There was an increase in the number of Avian isolates (2 in 2022 versus 11 in 2023) and Ovine isolates (2 in 2022 versus 11 in 2023). There was a decrease in the number of Poultry isolates (26 in 2022 versus 17 in 2023) and Salmonella Give isolates (11 in 2022 versus 1 in 2023).

March

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 65 non-human Salmonella isolates in March 2023 compared with 93 March 2022.There was a decrease in the number of Poultry isolates (72 in 2022 versus 6 in 2023) There was an increase in the number of Bovine isolates (4 in 2022 versus 21 in 2023) and Ovine isolates (2 in 2022 versus 12 in 2023).

April

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 60 non-human Salmonella isolates in April 2023 compared with 57 April 2022.There was a decrease in the number of Poultry isolates (14 in 2022 versus 3 in 2023) There was an increase in the number of S. Give isolates (3 in 2022 versus 17 in 2023).

May

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 64 non-human Salmonella isolates in May 2023 compared with 72 May 2022.There was an increase in the number of Ovine isolates (4 in 2022 versus 21 in 2023).There was a decrease in the number of Poultry isolates (23 in 2022 versus 4 in 2023).

June

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 42 non-human Salmonella isolates in June 2023 compared with 47 June 2022. There was a decrease in the number Poultry isolates (15 in 2022 versus 2 in 2023).There was an increase in the number S. Hindmarsh isolates (2 in 2022 versus 7 in 2023).

July

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 38 non-human Salmonella isolates in July 2023 compared with 58 July 2022.There was a decrease in the number of Bovine isolates (22 in 2022 vs 16 in 2023), and Poultry isolates (15 in 2022 vs 2 in 2023).

August

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 90 non-human Salmonella isolates in August 2023 compared with 115 in August 2022. There was an increase in the number of S. Bovismorbificans isolates (8 in 2022 vs 23 in 2023) and S. Brandenburd isolates (6 in 2022 vs 15 in 2023). There was a decrease in the number of Food isolates (17 in 2022 vs 3 in 2023) and Poultry isolates (5 in 2021 vs 0 in 2022). 

September

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 70 non-human Salmonella isolates in September 2023 compared with 110 September 2022. There was a decrease in the number of Salmonella Give isolates (19 in 2022 vs. 5 in 2023) and Salmonella Typhimurium isolates (49 in 2022 versus 20 in 2023).

October

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 42 non-human Salmonella isolates in October 2023 compared with 72 October 2022. There was a decrease in the number of Salmonella Give isolates (20 in 2022 versus 5 in 2023) and Salmonella Typhimurium isolates (23 in 2022 versus 11 in 2023).

November

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 32 non-human Salmonella isolates in November 2023 compared with 44 November 2022. There was a decrease in the number of Canine isolates (12 in 2022 versus 3 in 2023) and Feline isolates (7 in 2022 versus 2 in 2023). There was an increase in the number of Bovine isolates (9 in 2022 versus 22 in 2023).
