Grouping results are reported and notified electronically to EpiSurv as soon as possible after receipt of the sample to assist the public health response.
The final report contains the group and PorA type. Final results are notified electronically to EpiSurv.See below for further reporting details.
Characterisation of meningococcal samples is important for the epidemiological surveillance of meningococcal disease.
Please refer isolates from normally sterile sites and from cases of meningococcal conjunctivitis, or from the throat of a clinically diagnosed case of meningococcal disease where this is the only viable isolate available.
Meningococcal isolate characterisation has transitioned to whole genome sequencing, however, grouping and PorA typing will continue to be tested using current routine methods, and reported as above. Other typing results will be available on an ad hoc basis.
If a result is required in order to inform public health or clinical decision making, please contact the laboratory at email@example.com.
