Manager, Strategic Partnerships.
With experience working in both the public and private sectors, Strategic Partnerships Manager Ramesh Ganesan brings a wide-ranging set of skills to ESR’s Commercial team.
Before coming to ESR in September 2015, Ramesh served as a Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (previously the Ministry of Science and Innovation). Prior to that he worked in marketing and business development roles for a number of organisations, including Momentum Studios and Grow Wellington.
Born in Malaysia, Ramesh spent most of his teenage years in the UK. He worked in three different countries before moving to New Zealand in 1999. Based on his personal and professional background, Ramesh has particular expertise in understanding cross-culture challenges and opportunities, and increasing an organisation's exposure and sales in international markets.
Ramesh says one of the things that the Commercial team brings to ESR is a strong outward focus.
“We have a capable team that’s committed to supporting ESR’s mandate. With my experience, I hope to connect ESR with new government-to-government initiatives, and help build domestic and international private sector partnerships.”
He adds that 'relevance' is the name of the game in business development, "When I was 21 an established lawyer in Singapore told me that I needed to understand 'relevance' and 'application' if I wanted to get anywhere. It seems a simple enough concept, but over the years that piece of advice has become increasingly 'relevant' in itself.”
He says for the Commercial team staying relevant means working closely with ESR’s scientists.
“We need to fully understand our products and services so that we can match them to the needs of existing or new customers.”
Ramesh has a Masters in Management and a Postgraduate Diploma (Distinction) in Business Administration from Massey University. He also earned a Bachelor of Law from the University of Hull in the UK.
