Risk Communication, Natural Hazards and Emergency Management

 

"Supporting Communication Around the Canterbury Earthquake and Other Risks: A Learning Workshop", Christchurch, 7 April 2011

The aim of this workshop was to provide a supportive 'time out' for people working on earthquake communications to share their experiences and to meet with researchers in the risk communication field.  We wanted to acknowledge the massive effort and expertise being put into communication, and to reflect on the issues that are coming up with the current situation.

  • What do we know about international ‘best practice’ in risk decision-making field, and how can we develop new models for New Zealand?

Risk, Sustainability and Climate


Climate Change and Sustainability Science – an STS perspective (a New Zealand APSTSN Workshop organised by ESR and Landcare Research with the support of the Climate Change Research Institute, School of Government, VUW), Wellington, 8 March 2010
This event explored trends in climate change research through the lens of ‘Science, Technology and Society’ (STS) studies. It offered an opportunity for critical reflection on the wider New Zealand climate change research agenda, and the implications for future directions in science, including transdisciplinary research and sustainability science.

A one-day workshop on the social science issues around climate change orgainised by the New Zealand Climate Change Centre (NZCCC) in association with the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO, Building Research Capability in the Social Sciences Network (BRCSS), the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre, and the Royal Society of New Zealand Social Science Advisory Panel.
