Social Scientist
Virginia (Jinny) Baker specialises in group facilitation technologies, community consultation and workshop design, focus group and qualitative data collection, stakeholder analysis, project management, risk communication and management pertaining to environmental health. A key focus is to better understand the interface between science, policy and community, and integrate multi-stakeholder, particularly Maori values and development, and multi-disciplinary perspectives (including different institutional, technological, legislative, community concerns, and value-based requirements) into decision-making.
Research interests include occupational safety and health, deviance and social control, compliance, risk management, institutional theory and behaviour, social marketing, social inequalities, science and new technology, sustainability and environment. Favoured approaches are systems thinking and participatory action research.
