As a partner in the Canterbury Water Cluster, we contributed to an analysis of the needs of Canterbury water users with the Canterbury Development Corporation. Twenty-six organisations participated in the study, representing irrigation/agriculture, municipal water users, conservation/recreation, industry and hydropower. The project found that meeting the water related requirements of key water user groups needs to go beyond the development a tool box. The needs of the water user groups go back to something as basic as information provision and sharing and having the right skill sets to analyse and interpret data collected.
