The National Radiation Laboratory (NRL) is a specialist unit of the The Institute of Environmental Science & Research (ESR), based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The scientific and advisory services of NRL transferred to ESR from the Ministry of Health on 1 December 2011.
Its main roles are to:
- Provide an emergency response capability in the event of radiation incidents
- Provide expert advice to government agencies and industry
- Provide high-quality measurement and advisory services for both ionising and non-ionising radiation within New Zealand and internationally
