Staff in the Food Safety Programme have a broad mix of skills and expertise that enable the group to investigate food in a cross-disciplinary manner.
These skills are brought together to address client needs, including addressing prevailing acute or emerging public health issues in a very short time frame.
Scientific expertise includes:
- chemical, microbiological and physical hazard identification and risk assessment;
- food contaminant and residue analysis and interpretation, including compliance with regulations and standards;
- food safety through the investigation of natural food components influencing health and disease;
- testing foods implicated in food poisonings and complaints, and investigation of food-borne illness outbreaks;
- managing food safety issues of the future.
