ESR Post-Graduate Scholarships
Applications for these scholarships close on the 31st of October each year.
The ESR post Graduate Scholarship Programme provides an opportunity to fund full time post graduates through their MSc or PhD at a New Zealand university. An aim of the programme is to support potential new recruits trained in areas where ESR wishes to expand research capability. ESR also requires input to specific research topics from time to time and these can form the basis of an MSc project.
One PhD scholarship is offered per year, with a maximum of three running concurrently. Funding includes the scholarship of $23,000 and a further contribution of $4,000 for course expenses, making a total of $27,000 per year for a maximum of three years. For an MSc, funding is $17,000 in total (scholarship plus contribution to course expenses) for one year. At least one MSc scholarship is available most years, the exact number varies depending of the level of PhD scholarship commitment for the year.
Scholarships are offered in response to opportunities identified by ESR staff, though students are encouraged to make an approach to ESR staff to discuss potential research projects.
Students will be jointly supervised by ESR and university staff and students will be required to spend more time working with the ESR co-supervisor during the term of the scholarship.
The Scholarships are competitive and criteria for selection are:
- The calibre of the candidate
- The strategic fit of the research topic area to the ESR Science and Research Strategy.
- The strategic fit of the panel comprising an ESR Board member, the Science and Research Manager and Principle Scientists.
