Careers in Forensic Science

 


Forensic Scientists and Technicians need a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, biochemistry, medical laboratory science or molecular biology. A masters or PhD, or a diploma in forensic science is an advantage. Forensic scientists who do DNA analysis need to have studied biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology, as well as statistics or population genetics.

New Zealand Courses in Forensic Science


In 1996 ESR and the University of Auckland jointly introduced a set of postgraduate qualifications in forensic science. These are:

  • Certificate of Proficiency
  • Postgraduate Diploma
  • Master of Science in Forensic Science and
  • PhD in Forensic Science
