Kairangahau Māori/Māori Researcher

Annabel joined ESR in April 2005 and is based at the Christchurch Science Centre. She has affiliations through her father’s whānau to Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kauwhata, Rangitāne, Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāti Toa. Annabel has a Master’s Degree in Public Health and experience in public health, Māori and iwi research.
The Māori Researcher role reports to the Integrative Research for Sustainability (IRfS) Group Manager and provides analytical, methodological and management support to project teams and external clients in the area of rangahau Māori and social science.
Key tasks:
- Supporting and performing public and environmental health research activities including: preparation of research proposals, design of questionnaires and systems for collecting data, analysis, interpretation and display of data, preparation of written material, reports and publications for internal and external use, and planning, coordinating and managing research projects;
- Providing research and cultural support to two case study sites within the Sustainable Development- Human Dimension project (funded by FRST);
- Providing research, methodological and cultural support to the HRC-funded Te Riu o Hokianga project;
- Working with the Māori Development position to further Māori development and research aims; and
- Liaising with clients (internal and external), the public health community, funding agencies, the media and public (including Māori communities, mana whenua).
